Samsung offers an extensive portfolio for the growing digital signage market – including Super Narrow Bezel displays for video walls, 120Hz Edge-LED Digital Information Displays, 3D displays for advanced advertising, high brightness displays for ‘real outdoor’ usage and panoramic displays for special format signage.

Digital information displays are increasingly used to provide information in public transportation, retail stores and other public areas. They can also be used as a part of interior décor to provide a wide array of information highly effectively. Samsung believes that the adoption of such systems enables the quick and precise delivery of information, enhances PR and exhibition activities, removes the need to print information and advertisements and decreases maintenance costs through easy system changes.

According to DisplaySearch, a global market research firm, the market for digital information display LCD panels is expected to grow from 1.33 million in 2010 to 6.57 million units in 2015. It is also projected that LCD panels will account for nearly 90% of the digital information display market in 2015.

Samsung emphasises three core elements that make the company’s products unique: human interaction, environmental friendliness and cost effectiveness through reduction in maintenance needs.

Leading outdoor displays

Incorporating the latest technologies, Samsung’s 70” full high-definition digital information display panel opens up new applications for outdoor displays. This product takes into account the environment as well as the need for greater reliability and longevity. Samsung claims this is the first outdoor panel that compensates for strong ambient light conditions, thus giving advertisers and other media content companies a vivid, large scale medium that makes it easier for consumers to read displayed information, even in bright sunlight. This display is one of the brightest in the world, suitable for projecting vivid, life-like images, both indoor and outdoor.

Cost-efficient panels for video wall solutions

Samsung’s 46” super-narrow-bezel display is a good solution for creating seamless images in large displays while still at a reasonable price. Among the innovative features of this LCD panel are very narrow black bezels that easily accommodate the creation of tiled displays in almost any size. Today, the largest single LCD display is approximately 100” but, by combining multiple Samsung 46” panels, customers can configure even larger video walls for applications like advertising, command & control and many others.

Samsung’s 46” panel has a black, powder-coated bezel that is 90% narrower than an LCD TV bezel and 75% narrower than previous thin-bezel models. The soon-to-be launched new generation of 55” Edge-LED Super Narrow Display panels further enhances these opportunities, offering full HD image quality and maximum energy-efficiency during operation.

Panoramic displays

Their 43” LCD panel produces images with a panoramic aspect ratio of 4:1, compared to conventional standard (4:3) or widescreen (16:9) panels. Featuring Full HD-ready (1920x480 resolution), this super-wide panel can be utilised in subway stations, airports, shopping malls and schools, where existing standard panels are unable to deliver information effectively. In addition, the Samsung super-wide panel allows for the effective delivery of related information in various formats through split screens. With the capability to run three VGA (640x480) screens at once or individually, the panel can present different eye-catching combinations of video and text in contiguous displays.

Eco-innovation through edge-LED panels

In response to increasing demand for slimmer and more energy-efficient digital signage solutions, Samsung’s LCD Business is mass producing the industry’s first ultra-slim LCD panels suited for large size digital signage. Samsung’s edge-lit LED (light emitting diode) backlighting offers lighter weight and thinner designs, which is preferable for wall-mounting as opposed to bulkier direct-lit LED LCDs. The LED-backlit panels are also mercury-free and consume less energy. Just 10.8mm thick, the new Samsung panels are only a fourth the thickness of conventional LCD panels currently in mass production and come in 40, 43, 46” and 55” diagonal sizes in full HD resolution.

There is a growing demand for eco-friendly products in European and other major world markets. Samsung inspects their products and all environmental pollution, including water, air quality around the plant, and regularly checks compliance with international environment requirements.
