RTL TVI Chooses Barco for Colour Accuracy

Belgian TV channel RTL TVI has recently chosen Barco's RHDM-1701 17” reference monitor to evaluate the colour accuracy of its broadcasts. Barco claims that this proves that its RHDM series is the most powerful series of high-definition LCD reference monitors on the market today.
 
RTL TVI is a large TV channel in French-speaking Belgium, which reaches 90% of its targeted viewers via cable. The channel has used Barco monitors since it began broadcasting in 1987, but has now decided to replace some of the older models with the RHDM-1701. This will be used as the high-definition reference monitor for camera shading and as main program monitor in every control room.
 
Barco states that, as the first true Grade-1 LCD reference monitors, the new series will bring professional accuracy to anyone who is highly demanding about colours. They suggest that camera or lighting professionals, editors, colourists and post-production staff may value its performance. They claim that outstanding image quality is achieved through several innovative technical features. These include advanced calibration and stabilization technology to keep colours lasting, motion handling systems to prevent motion blur, a native 10-bit panel, calibrated RGB-backlights and 48-bit processing.
 
“The neutrality and quality of the images were our main reasons to choose Barco's RHDM-1701,” explained Vincent Jeumont, Head of Systems and Projects at RTL Belgium. “Our directors of photography told us they can always rely on the Barco monitors: if the picture looks good on a Barco, it will also be okay on any other monitor and on TV. Furthermore, we have a long term cooperation and collaboration with Barco, giving all our operators the needed confidence in the brand.”
 
The high-definition reference monitor has been available in a 23-inch version since 2008. A 17-inch model, designed to be suitable for use in more confined spaces such as outdoor broadcasting vans and camera shading positions, followed in early 2010. RTL TVI also uses the 23-inch RHDM-2301 for camera evaluation, quality control and colour grading in the editing suite.
 
A number of other leading broadcasters in Europe and America, such as ABC, BBC and ZDF, also use the series.
