The Latest News from NEC
The NEC Tuner provides three solutions in one single module: users can receive DVB-T, IPTV and analogue signals via the option slot on their display and thus reap greater benefit from an even wider range of content feed methods. This represents a major advantage in particular for the areas of digital signage, education and corporate in-house information and entertainment.
Developers say the tuner is a simple and cost-effective way of receiving TV signals on a public display. Thanks to the option slot integrated within the display the user does not need any additional cables or external devices and can operate the tuner using the display's remote control. Channels can also be changed via LAN through the built-in HTTP server which is very convenient for central control of multiple screens.
IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) is particularly suitable to those starting out in the world of digital signage. Commercials or selected information can be transmitted quite easily via the network – for example, as video – to be broadcast on public displays as a uni or multicast system. In the educational field certain programmes can be shown in classrooms and at key information spots on campus. In addition, large companies can transmit important corporate news to all public displays on the premises. The signals are managed throughout the network from a single device, meaning that it is easier for the user to handle and also saves money.
"With our new NEC Tuner we enhance our successful option slot concept which guarantees our customers great flexibility and ensures a future-proof investment regarding technical changes," said Thorsten Prsybyl, Product Line Manager Public Displays Europe at NEC Display Solutions Europe.
The company has also introduced a new value 46-inch public display with an extremely narrow bezel for impressive video wall installations. The NEC MultiSync X461UNV is the latest edition to the x series range, and is designed to be highly cost efficient solution, ideally suited for video walls in the retail trade, in the hotel and catering sector and in conference rooms where continuous display operation and high brightness is not required.
The large option portfolio, which includes built-in PCs, various mounting solutions, a colour calibration kit and other useful accessories, make it a complete and easy to install video wall product.
With networking features such as SNMP support, an extra standard networking protocol, users benefit from efficient management and monitoring options via the network, in addition to the NEC LAN control software. The built-in, temperature controlled fans, which are inactive in standard environments, can be controlled by the user and allow for easy heat management in more demanding installations without further external ventilation.
Individual displays can be combined into groups and managed directly, which enables the user to address multiple screens with a single command. In combination with TileMatrix per input, this allows content design to be more varied and flexible at the touch of a button. The ambient light sensor is intended to ensure that optimum brightness is automatically maintained at all times, which should reducing power consumption and enhance the public display's usability.
The screen has a range of connection options, including a DisplayPort as well as DVI-D, HDMI and analogue interfaces.
Prsybyl stated: "The NEC MultiSync X461UNV offers distinguished features which make it the best product in its class and enables professional, but economic video wall installations.”
In addition to the new screen, NEC is now offering LED modules for video wall installations located both indoors and out.
The NEC 6mm pixel pitch indoor and 15mm pixel pitch outdoor LED modules are designed for creating mobile video walls and for fixed installations where the highest performance is demanded.
LED modules offer improved brilliance for situations when the distances between the display and the viewer are significant, with efficiencies in energy use and costs. LED modules also provide an extended product life expectancy when compared to other technologies. The applications range from mobile (rental) installations for events and staging to fixed installations in sports facilities, congress centres, shopping malls, reception halls, airports, broadcast studios, railway stations or as an advertising medium on buildings.
With the introduction of the LED modules with a 6mm pixel pitch (SMD technology) for indoors and 15mm pixel pitch (Discrete LED technology) for outdoor installations, NEC is entering the LED sector. Both versions of the product work according to the “True Pixel” principle, in which each red, green and blue LED forms one pixel. This means that brilliances of around 2,000 NIT (6mm) and 7,500 NIT (15mm) as well as better colour depth and accuracy can be achieved compared to the “Virtual Pixel” principle. The NEC LED modules also have very low energy consumption, which ensures improved cost-efficiency during operation.
"As well as the LED modules, the basic components of an LED video wall require a suitable wall mounting solution, cables and a video distributor and processor, NEC has developed a complete LED solution with these components," said Clemens von Braunmühl, Manager Product Management EMEA at NEC Display Solutions.
"With our first-class network of expertise comprising distributors, solution partners and systems integrators, we are able to offer the LED modules in addition to all the other existing NEC display solutions. For our customers, this means having a single, defined contact that can provide a tremendous range of projectors, LC displays and now also LED modules, as well as the associated consulting, service and maintenance structures required to create a solution that is individually tailored to their needs."
The company asserts that the move into this additional digital and retail signage segment secures its leading position as a provider of what is arguably the widest portfolio of display and projection solutions on the market.
