Labmedicin Skåne has selected the screens to form a vital part of their brand new digital pathology system to be installed in laboratories located in Helsingborg, Kristianstad, Lund, and Malmö. The choice of the calibrated solution confirms the need for slide-to-eye consistency in digital pathology diagnosis.
Pathology laboratories are just starting to make the innovational shift towards digital diagnostics, replacing glass microscope slides with digital images. Labmedicin Skåne is one of the largest healthcare laboratories in northern Europe. Four regional hospital pathology labs (in Helsingborg, Kristianstad, Lund and Malmö) will be linked up in the system, thereby enabling shared digital pathology services, and a better quality of care.

Twenty five display systems include a number of features which offer added value to pathologists, ensuring ultimate slide-to-eye consistency, meaning the pathologist can focus his efforts on his diagnosis, without worrying about image quality. The associated software ensures networked and centralized Quality Assurance, finding all the displays in the system-wide Labmedicin Skåne network and making sure they all display the images exactly in the same way, over and over again. It is a rock-solid quality guarantee for uniformly displayed, remote pathology.

By replacing glass slides with digital images coming from the four laboratories, these can be transferred to a central databank, giving a permanent and easily accessible digitized slide image for all cases, which can be consulted on all the Labmedicin Skåne sites, and even abroad. The diagnostic process can be improved and turnaround time for interpretations reduced, resulting in improved quality and patient safety. Installation is due to start imminently, with plans to be fully operational by Spring 2012. The integrated system is estimated to produce 500,000 digital slides annually.
