Large-Format LCD Touch Screen Applications
A Touch on the Large Side
By Bas Smeets, PresTop
PresTop is a Dutch company with 20 years of experience in developing interactive technologies. Starting out with projectors and presentation equipment, their product portfolio has expanded to information kiosks, touchscreens, touchcomputers, touchtables and large multi-touch/multi-user screens. From this year, PresTop is the exclusive partner for Philips/MMD to manufacture the Philips-branded large-format LCD touchscreens. These professional screens are available in sizes 32”, 42”, 52”and 65” and use optical multi-touch technology with two touchpoints. The 32”and 42” screens can also be equipped with multi-user touch with up to 32 touchpoints. The market for large-format touchscreens is growing rapidly, especially the education market, where these screens are replacing interactive whiteboards that have a high cost of ownership, because of the need to replace expensive projector lamps regularly.
Also digital signage is becoming more interactive – we are already used to interactive information kiosks, and now that large touchscreens are becoming more available, we will see them being used in digital signage as well. It is a fact that, in order to attract the viewer’s attention, you need content that attracts your target audience. Adding interactivity by inviting the viewer to touch the screen and giving him options for what he wants to see increases the effectivity by a large degree.
Other applications include interactive directories in corporate lobbies, interactive floorplans in shopping malls and conference centres.
Multi-user touch tables are currently attracting crowds at all exhibitions where they are displayed.
PresTop manufactures touchtables based on LCD and LED screens instead of using projector technology. This allows the tables to be very flat, not so bulky in size and easier to transport.
Besides the Philips screens, PresTop is the first company on the market with a 55” LED Multi-user touch screen. The LED display allows the creation of an extremely flat and light touchtable screen.
PresTop is known for its flexibility, and can easily customise or develop a new product together with the client. For the software part, the in-house software division is able to develop custom applications and content for the screens and multitouch tables. They have wide experience in working with retail, government and corporate projects.
