Sony's video wall solution

Each screen is driven by Sony’s Cell Processor, so there is no limit to the number of screens that can be incorporated.

With Sony’s Ziris Canvas video wall, there is no restriction on the number of screens or their positioning or orientation. Each screen is driven by Sony’s Cell Processor, so there is no limit to the number of screens that can be incorporated. For example, a configuration of five screens by five screens, providing a pixel resolution of 5400 x 9600, would mean that video content could be run on each of the individual screens or be scaled to run across all screens simultaneously.
 
Screens can be combined in either landscape or portrait formats, in any size and at any angle to heighten the impact of messages. An installation of adjacent screens on the floor, walls and even ceiling could be used to create an immersive effect which makes the audience experience a sense of participation rather than simply observation.
 
Ziris Canvas is driven by a customised PlayStation3 Cell Processor, which has been tried and tested through gaming and media centre applications to deliver high video processing power. A maximum video bit rate of 41 mb/s can be achieved to deliver smooth and accurate HD image rendering.
 
Multiple content elements (like images and logos adjacent to video or scrolling text) can be overlaid without quality decrease. Dolby Surround Sound audio can also be added, giving a complete audio-visual installation.
 
Ziris Canvas also comes with a customised version of Sony’s Ziris Digital Signage software, which is easy to operate and takes care of everything from layout, targeted playlist scheduling, content authoring and playout monitoring. Content can be adapted and re-allocated to ensure messages are precisely targeted at all times. The software supports an unlimited number of screens, so the installation can be expanded at any time.The software is operated over the internet.
 
Authors can import files to create media content, create or edit playlists or slide shows, upload scheduling information, view and edit metadata and send and receive messages from other members of their team. This is based on the software designed by the European research team (BPRL) for Sony Corporation.
 
The infrastructure of a Ziris Canvas installation is straightforward: each screen is connected to a single, modified PS3 which is connected by a hub to the internet-based management software. The set-up of the PS3s can be controlled by keyboard or a console controller. The system features built-in network connectivity to provide real-time, remote device monitoring and control.
