SightSystems new media player
Industrial computer specialist Sight Systems has launched a new media player range for the digital signage market.

The Dimension range of six media players was designed and built by the company’s UK team and runs software for use in digital signage systems such as retail TV, digital posters, travel information and patient information boards.

The new range of six different media players offers:

  • The latest GPUs with full 3D and video acceleration as standard
  • Wi-Fi connectivity – no cabling
  • Ultra-low power – reducing energy consumption and running costs
  • Compact unit with a small footprint

Unlike some other media players, Dimension uses the latest GPU technology to enhance the performance of software via 3D acceleration. This creates good graphics performance and smoother transition effects, allowing image streams to be played simultaneously on a single screen, such as HD video, Flash images and news tickers.

Sight Systems worked with three of the world’s leading digital signage vendors to develop a product that maximised performance and minimised cost. Damon Crowhurst, Scala EMEA Services Director, comments, “Our partners are always looking for a balance of three key factors - price, performance and form factor. Sight Systems has taken these into consideration when developing the Dimension range, and we look forward to seeing the market’s no doubt positive response based on our early tests.”

The Dimension range has an easily adaptable form-factor which gives digital signage vendors flexibility and economies of scale when developing solutions. A digital signage system may be distributed widely across retail stores, with each requiring different levels of functionality to deliver targeted messages to a particular customer demographic. The same media player footprint can be used for each unit – a store display which requires more graphics capacity will not require a larger media player box.

Craig Blackman, managing director of Sight Systems, said: “We believe that we have created a first in the digital signage market by delivering a very high performance solution, but at the most cost effective price available. Media players imported from abroad simply cannot match what Dimension offers, particularly the 3D acceleration capabilities.”
