Special glass panes

3M and Glaswerke Haller collaborate to develop special glass panes for self-service applications and ATMs.
Diversified technology company 3M and Glaswerke Haller are now working together to develop special glass panes for ATM machines and self-service applications. The design and development of innovative, state-of-the-art glass products can present major challenges for manufacturers, particularly if integration of multiple components is required.
However, meeting the consistent high quality standards expected by the end customer is achievable, as 3M and Glaswerke Haller have demonstrated.
The two companies are collaborating on the manufacture of privacy display screens for ATM machines and self-service units in which Vikuiti Light Control Film (LCF) from 3M is laminated to glass panes developed by Glaswerke Haller. Utilising 3M’s proven and effective manufacturing technologies, Vikuiti LCF works similar to a Venetian blind to limit viewing of on-screen information from off-axis positions for privacy reasons.
3M provided Glaswerke Haller with quality control training and a special evaluation procedure for the use of Vikuiti LCF in the glass structure. Before film to glass lamination is conducted, Glaswerke Haller tests for any slight faults in the Vikuiti LCF, such as microscopic dirt particles, scratches or dents. The test results are incorporated in both Glaswerke Haller’s ISO-based management system and 3M’s quality assurance system. The results will also be used to improve 3M’s film production further and the production of larger front screens from Glaswerke Haller in the future.
The two companies plan to extend this first successful development in quality standard assurance to other production areas, such as safety or toughened glass and protective films.
