German embedded computing specialist DSM Computer offers two alternatives for digital signage and kiosk applications: their compact PicoBox as an external control computer for a screen; or the DSM Public Display completely integrated solution.

The DSM Public Display system combines a high-quality 40 to 65” standard NEC TFT monitor with an embedded PC module developed by DSM Computer. The extremely small, 41mm deep computer module can be inserted in the provided screen slot without requiring any complicated cabling or additional power supply. To satisfy the requirements of various applications, the PC module is available in several performance classes with Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile, Intel Core Duo/Solo Mobile or Intel Celeron M 440/530 processors.

The DSM Public Display can run stand-alone or, when integrated into a network, communicate with a central digital signage computer. Updates with current information are performed using a high-performance Ethernet connection or directly from the integrated 80 GB hard disk. An externally accessible VGA interface allows a second display to be controlled without requiring a PC plug-in module. Two PS/2 interfaces permit the connection of a keyboard and a mouse for service purposes.

The robust PicoBox for controlling digital signage, POS/POI and kiosk systems runs without a fan and, thanks to its small dimensions (180 x 180 x 55mm), can easily be installed into any space. The control computer is already available in two variants – with an Intel Atom providing GigaBit LAN (2x 1000 Base T) connections or two 10/100 Base TX interfaces. PicoBox PCs with Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile and with integrated DVD ROM are being developed.

Depending on the variant, the display can be connected using the DVI or the VGA interface. USB 2.0 ports, serial outputs and audio connections provide a high degree of flexibility. A separate interface panel allows other interfaces to be made available externally. The high-quality PicoBox system has space for a robust 2.5 inch hard disk.
